At the end of my last post I said that due to work commitments my adventure had stalled. I know it would be easy to abandon this one in favour of a new game but that would be very unfulfilling. So I will get the adventure moving again by rolling on the d6 random event table below.

1 – Ambush

2 – Treachery

3 – Unlooked-for assistance

4 – Unexpected clue

5 – Sudden accident

6 – Crossed paths

I roll a 1. Ambush.

Scene 14. Ambush

Oracle Question. Are they ambushed by humans? Yes, and…
Oracle Question. Are they Allonean Warriors? Yes, but…

3 (1d6+1, roll =2) Alloneon bandits and their leader hiding in the undergrowth attempt to ambush the party.

Tilly makes a wisdom ability check to see if she spots the ambushers before they attack. Her wisdom is 12 and she gets +2 for her alertness skill, she needs to roll 14 or less on d20 to pass. Roll is 3, she spots some movement in the undergrowth and the ambushers are unable to surprise the party.

Bandits x 3
Attack: +0 to hit, 1d8 damage (long sword)
Hit Dice: 1d6 (4 HP)
AC: 13
Alignment: Chaos
XP: 20

Bandit Leader
Hit Dice: 2d6 (7 HP)
AC: 14
Attack: +2 to hit, 1d8 damage (long sword)
Alignment: Chaos
XP: 30

Rolling on the MUNE NPC attitude to see how the Bandits react to the party I get Hostile.

Tilly readies the longsword she took from the dead guard at the town of Zfonroon, “we have company” she whispers.
Moonwane hands Farahd his longsword, “Think you can manage to wield this lad”? Farahd nods. “I think so”.

The bandits burst out of the undergrowth, charging towards the party. Tilly, Moonwane and Farahd take a defensive stance around Karintha, aiming to protect her from the attack.

COMBAT.

Tilly has the highest initiative. she rolls to see if she hits one of the bandits, roll = 15, hit, damage = 5. Tilly thrusts the longsword at her attacker and it slices right through him. He falls to the ground.

Moonwane gets to strike next. Needing 13 or more to hit his opponent with his enchanted battleaxe he rolls 11 with  +2 bonus,a hit, just. Damage roll 8 with + 3 bonus = 11. His axe carves a bandit almost in two.

The bandit Leader has the next highest initiative. I roll d4 to see who he attacks. 1=Tilly, 2=Moonwane, 3=Farahd, 4 = Karintha. Roll =2, he attacks Moonwane. Needing 16+ to hit he rolls 10, even with his +2 attack bonus its not enough.

Farahd strikes at the fourth bandit, rolling 16, a hit. Damage roll is 4. Farahd surprises even himself, his sword cuts the bandit down before the poor soul can retaliate.

With his men cut down and finding himself surrounded, the bandit captain drops his longsword and surrenders himself to the adventures.

Oracle Question. Can the bandit leader speak common jundarr (unlikely). Yes.

To Tilly and Moonwanes surprise the bandit leader speaks to them perfectly in the language used by all from Jundarr.

Oracle Question. Is the Bandit Leader from Jundarr? No, but…

No, but…

Random Verbs. Drain. Work, Visit.

The Bandit leader went to visit Jundarr many years ago. He ended up staying there finding employment working on the big underground sewer system. He learned to speak common Jundarr fluently.

Open Question. How did he get to Allonia?

Random verbs. Interest. Snatch, Amuse.

He tells the party he and his three companions were hired to go to Allonia and bring Tilly back to Jundarr. They would be paid with interest if they returned with her alive. Their patron also wanted flowers left in the tower in the woods. He seemed very amused by that.

The bandit leader goes on to say that his plan was to ambush and overpower the party, snatch Tilly and take her to a small ship waiting in Zfonroon harbour. They hoped that being dressed as Allonian Warriors would allow them to get to the ship unimpeded by the town guards.

Tilly is determined to find out who hired him and why they want her taken back to Jundarr.

Oracle Question. Does the bandit leader know who the person was who hired him? Yes.

Oracle Question. Does the bandit leader know the persons name? No, but…

Oracle Question. Does the bandit leader know why the person wants Tilly taken back to Jundarr? No, but…

The bandit leader does not know the name of the person who hired him or why he wants Tillybut he does know he is very well-connected to the Thieves Guild. His little ship is in the harbour and he is happy to take them all back to Jundarr.

As far as Tilly is concerned thats the last place she wants to return to.

Moonwane points to the bodies of the dead bandits, “we better conceal these poor wretches, then decide what to do next. its not safe to return to Jundarr, at least not yet”.

Karintha is the first to speak, “We need your ship and we must head north to the Varendrys. Help us and I will reward you well.”

The Bandit leader looks at his situation, his men dead, surrounded by those he tried to kill and unable to sail his ship alone, “seems I have little choice. I hope you all know how to sail a ship, if not I hope you are fast learners. First we must get through Zdonroon to the harbour and my ship, no easy task.”.

Farhad smiles, “I think I may just know a way”.
