Stephen Grodzicki over at Pickpocket Press has made the playtest draft of Tales of Argosa (or LFG 2e) freely available to anyone who has LFG deluxe in their library on Drivethru RPG.

As a big fan of Pickpocket Press ttrpgs, in particular Lowlife 2090, I was really keen to download ToA and give it read and a try.

I spent a bit of time this afternoon reading through the pdf and created four characters in readiness for a solo game. Character creation is really easy and quick, I spent about 2 hours creating the four characters and that included scribbling everything down of A4 sheets of lined paper.

My early impressions are that ToA is very much Low Fantasy Gaming deluxe second edition. The changes seem subtle yet the game is easier to understand without losing anything in the process. Much of the character creation process is randomised making it really suitable to solo play. Indeed the many tables and charts as well as the nod to oracles and oracle tools in the form of cards and dice show that Pickpocket Press have aimed this RPG at solo and GMless play as well as traditional face to face games.

The playtest book is about 242 pages and I have to admit I have not had time to read through it all yet. I have read enough to be able to start an adventure and I will spend the next few weeks, months or longer dipping in and out of both Tales of Argosa as well as my current Lowlife 2090 campaign, both of which I will type up on the blog as I go along.
