A change of theme.

I ordered myself a new laptop for working on, the one I currently use is 10 years old and whilst it still meets my needs, it is starting to struggle and becoming a bit frustrating to work on. The new laptop hasn’t arrived yet, should be with me next week, so while I am waiting I thought I take a look at the site and make a few changes.

The eagle-eyed may notice that I have changed themes. The old theme, Blogus, began to look a bit tired, at least to me. I really wanted a more magazine style layout. A quick search for a suitable new theme came up with Spiel which looked okay and was free. I have this morning installed it and it seems to do what I want but I need to run with it for a few weeks to see if I am happy with it. A word of warning though, I still need to do a little work getting this theme fully up to speed, so you may find some aspects of the site don’t work the way they should.

Why a magazine theme?

SoloRPG.co.uk was always intended to be more than a series of actual play posts. When I started I envisioned reviews, news, solo tips & tricks, world building and rules ideas being posted. Work and lack of free time ended up meaning I struggled to get my actual plays up on the blog, anything else was a non starter, or if they did start, fizzled out very quickly.

Now I have a lot more time to devote to the blog and the hobby in general. I get emails in my inbox on a daily basis with details of new releases, up coming kickstarter projects and books on offer through drivethruRPG.com. I think its time to get on developing the site starting maybe with reviews and news along with my actual plays. A magazine style layout works better for this type of blog rather than the old liner one.

Regular blog posts.

As much as I would like to, there is noway I can do a daily blog but, illness and hospital stays aside, I need to do better than a post once every two or three weeks. Not being very good at self publicity and not being a fan of social media means frequent and, hopefully, useful and interesting blog posts are my best shot at getting traffic to the site. Reviews and News are a good way to get posts on the blog which readers may be keen to read.

That doesn’t mean I will be dropping the actual plays, I intend to post those with greater frequency and, as well as my ongoing Tales of Argosa campaign, a greater mix of RPG games, (Call of Cthulhu got ignored due to me going into hospital unexpectedly, and I want to play some sci-fi games).

and that’s about it for now.

Apart from the above I do have plans to offer some solo tips and tricks on the site though not on a regular basis and they may be integrated into my actual plays rather than separate posts. I have a few other plans for the site which I will talk about in the future, for now I have rambled on enough.

Till next time,
