The adventure continues

Shonas cell phone rang. Shona answered in a manner suggesting that whoever was at the other end of the call was not going to be happy with her, “Hi”.
“Shona, it’s Nero”, the owner of Neros Nook and Grill looked and sounded like a disappointing farther who has just found out his daughter has been skipping school, “you forgotten you work for me”?
“No, I…”
“Get your ass down here and super quick. You want to keep your job you sing tonight. And make sure that delf waitress is with you or I’ll shop you and that exigent* elf to the peacekeepers, you got that”?
“Sure Ner…”
The connection went dead.

Scene 22, a mutilated corpse.

The day was, as usual, wet, very wet, heavy acidic rain washed down over Foundry Bay and the CTAC count was very high. Weasel had spent the night mulling over the conversation with Zero, he had not been able to sleep so was happy with the consensus to stay at Shona’s until the weather improved, that was until Nero, owner of Neros Nook bar and grill and Shona’s boss, phoned.
Weasel and Kid use to hustle down at Neros until Nero barred them. Weasel wanted Shona to stop singing at Neros, Nero wanted Shona to stop hanging around with Weasel. Shona was her own woman.
Rook worked there as a waitress, Nero didn’t usually take on illegals and exigents but he knew Shona brought in the punters so, to keep his star singer happy, Nero had agreed to Shonas request to employ her friend. Letting Rook work there was one thing but Nero drew the line at Weasel and Kid, he knew those two were trouble.

“Rook, Nero wants us at the bar now, he sounded angry, I think we better go” Shona turned to Weasel and Kid, “What are you two going to do?”

“we may as well come too”, replies Kid.

“You forgotten you are both barred from the Nook”.

“That case we may as well wait here till you get back”, weasel answers.

“No, you two have been here to long, I want some space when I finish my shift tonight, I want you both out”.

Weasel complains that he has no CTAC mask, Shina throws his her spare “Out!, go check out Club Jade again or find that reporter woman and see what she knows”.

Out on the street, Weasel and Kid turn to make their way back to their squat while Shona and Rook begin to walk the short distance to Neros Nook. Neither two have gone far when from a nearby lane, a shrill scream erupts, only to be suddenly cut off. Shone and Rook are closest and are first on the scene where they find male corpse dumped against a wall, with several chunks of his torso and legs missing. Bloody prints lead into a poorly lit foot tunnel.

Shona and Rook both make Perc checks to see if they are able to recognise the mutilated male. Shona need 17 or less on d20 and rolls 16, Rook needs 15 or less and rolls 11. They both recognise the male corpse.
Question. Who is the or was, the male? 1=Sargent Alegrip, 2 = Phoenix Chrome, 3 = Hif Klomo, 4 = Zink Onehi 5/6 = someone from Shona’s apartment block. d6 roll= 5
Roll d6 for race = 4 Skorn

Weasel and Kid run back to Shona, Rook and the corpse.

Weasel looks at the dead male and whistles “not much left of him, anyone we recognise?”

“Sure, he lived in the apartment below mine, didn’t know him that well, just enough to say hello. Whatever has done that to a Skorn is something I don’t want to meet”.

Kid spots the bloody prints leading to the tunnel, “Whatever had done this has headed into that tunnel, I for one plan to find it”.

Weasel agrees, telling Shona that they will take care of this, something to do whilst Shona and Rook are working at Neros.

Scene 23, into the tunnel.

Shona draws her purnelli pistol and makes to head towards the tunnel, “I don;t want to meet whatever did that but if you are going after it I am coming with you”.

“Its a bit dark in there, anyone got a flashlight?”

“No”

entrance to a dimly lit tunnel in a cyberpunk city.

The four walk cautiously side by side down through the tunnel firearms drawn and at the ready. The dim lights on the walls of the tunnel barely illuminating the way and the only sound to be heard is that of dripping water.

They are deep into the tunnel when the creature, a stoneback lizard, surprises them and attacks the nearest character.

Lizard gets a free hit.
Roll d4 to see who is attacked, 1 Weasel, 2 Kid, 3 Shona, 4 Rook. d4 roll = 2

The lizards great jaws snap at Kid, d20 roll to hit = 3 +9 bonus makes 12, just higher than kis AC 11. Damage = 5d6, roll = 14 – 3(kids def). Kid takes 11 hits he has 8 remaining.

Combat Round 1.
Initiative checks – Weasel 12, fails. Kid 6, pass, Shona 10, pass. Rook 17, fails.
Shona fires her Remington Covert into the lizards side. Roll to hit 13 +4 bonus = 17. She inflicts 9 – 5 = 4 hp bringing the lizard down to 13hp.
Kid attempts to dodge the lizards next attack. The lizard snaps at Kid again with its great jaws. Lizard rolls at disadvantage, d20 roll = 1 & 19. Kid is lucky, the roll of 1 means he manages to avoid the lizards jaws this time.
Weasel fires his KP raider at the creature. Roll = 6. Even at close range the bullets just glance off the creatures thick hide.
Rook fires her Remington. Roll = 7. Her bullets bounce of the lizards skin too. Rook shouts at them to move away from the creature.

Combat Round 2.
Initiative checks – Weasel 4, pass, Kid 10, pass. Shona 12, pass (just), Rook 8 pass.

Everyone except Rook moves back from the lizard before it can attack. Rook casts her Norcrathas Soporific Spores spell at the Stoneback. Will check roll = 14, success. Drained 1 Will point.
The Lizard makes a Luck(Will) check and fails. It falls asleep for 2d6 = 7 minutes. Just long enough for the PC’s to leg it back out of the tunnel.

Deciding that getting as far away from the stoneback is their best option, Shona and Rook head to Neros while Weasel and Kid make the journey back to their squat without further incident.

To be continued.
