Session 0. Intro.

Lowlife 2090 is a game of Cyberpunk and Sorcery published by Pickpocket Press. What makes Lowlife 2090 an ideal game for solo play is the myriad of random tables in the GM TOOLS section of rules book. Using these tables you can create a game rich in atmosphere and danger as your characters explore your version of Mendoza City. There is even a lexicon included which you can use to add depth and flavour to your world.

A while back I played a solo game of Lowlife 2090 using four characters who were all closely connected in someway.

Weasel. A Spriggan (goblin to you and me), Infiltrator. He’d lived on the streets of Doza all his life, burglary and thievery have kept him alive.

Kid Sinister. Human Exarch. An arcane specialist. Another lowlife street punk covered in tattoo’s but his are more than mere decorations. Kid S enforces his own brand of the law on the streets of Doza.

Shona. Human Influencer. Works at Nero’s Nook bar and grill as a singer. Looking for the big break that will get her out of Nero’s and out of Foundry Bay. As Nero says, ‘when Shona sings, Nero wins’.

Rook. Elf mage. Possibly the lowest of lowlifes. An unregistered mage and an illegal immigrant. If the authorities catch her she could find herself dead or worse.

It was a game I really enjoyed and I knew I wanted to revisit these characters and find out more about them. Weasel and Kid Sinister (Kid S for short) are the two I think offer the most potential so I am going to start the game just with those two. I an interested in Shona and Rook and may bring them into the game later. In the last outing Shona and Rook both got badly shot up in a street brawl so I can use the excuse that they need time to fully recover before taking part in a new adventure.

Session 0. Toolkit.

I am using following publications for my game.
Lowlife 2090 (obviously). This is the core rulebook.
Lowlife 2090. Alpha Supplement. A free supplement by Pockpocket Press. Adds additional Augments, Contacts and gear to those in the core rules.
Low 90 Solo. A supplement to add and aid solo play to Lowlife 2090. Published by Part per Million (ppm).
Augmented Reality & Augmented Reality +. Generic cyberpunk pdf’s with over 50 tables to help improvise your cyberpunk city. Published by Geist Hack Games.

Pickpocket Press also produce some useful drop tables which I may use and I have a few of their published adventures which I may pinch ideas and locations from.

All of the above can be found and are available on DrivethruRPG.com

I sometimes also use battle maps for combat, usually in conjunction with OwlBear Rodeo. These are usually whatever I can find for free on Google or DrivethruRPG.

Session 0. Do’s & Don’ts.

A Warning. This is a cyberpunk game set in a dystopian future. It will contain strong language, violence, murder and other themes of an adult nature. Whilst it wont be over the top, graphic or involve harming children or animals, its worth pointing out that it may not be everyone’s cup of tea and could offend some, (although most of the swear words are made up and you will certainly see worse in most modern TV detective drama’s).

No Tag Along NPC’s. This is a note to myself. I tend to allow tag along NPC’s to take over to the point where my characters become tag along characters, so NPC’s will be gone at the end of the scene they appear. For sure they may make an appearance in future scenes but they will not become members of the party.

The use of AI in my game. To help speed up publishing my posts, many of the images used in my posts will be generated using Nightcafe Studio for the simple reason that if I was to try and draw everything myself I would never get anything posted. I do also use free images from Pixabay, unfortunetly I don’t have the funds to pay someone to draw for me. Sometimes I may use maps and diagrams that I have created myself.

Otherwise I personally don’t use AI programmes such as ChatGPT to enhance my adventures. Its possible such software could help my solo games but I have not taken the plunge.

That’s it, session 0. Next post the adventure begins.
