There are 9 character classes in Lowlife 2090 and 9 days left of the January 2024 character creation challenge and as my solo adventure using Lowlife 2090 RPG by Pickpocket Press has kind of stalled and needs some some fresh air breathed into it, I thought it a good idea to end the month with one of each character class, I can then use them as NPC’s and hopefully get inspired again. So lets kick of with our first character, the brawler.

Page 9 of the Lowlife 2090 rules book details the 15 steps to character creation.

Step 1. Roll 1 d6 for get a random race for your character. I roll a 2 so my brawler is going to be an elf.

Step 2. Roll 1 d10 for your class. Well as I know I am creating a brawler I can skip this.

Step 3. Roll attributes. One attribute must be 15 and I am rolling 4d6 and totalling the highest three for the remaining 6 attributes.
I get 11, 6, 11, 15, 9, 18
I distribute the rolls as follows (attribute modifiers in brackets).
Str: 18(+3), Dex: 15(+2), Con: 15(+2), Int: 6(-2), Perc: 11(0), Will: 9(0), Cha: 11(0)
So my brawler character, with his high strength and low intelligence, is very much a ‘think with his fists’ type.

Step 4. We calculate initiative (average of Dex and Int) so15+6/2 round down = 10
We also calculate Defence (11+Dex mod) = 13

Step 5. Our brawlers hit points are 4+Con score + Level(1) = 20

Step 6. His Luck is 11 and his re-roll pool is 1

Step 7. Roll for contacts. Our brawler starts with three contacts. I get the following (number in brackets is rating)
Gym Boss (13) Catchphrase – Is it just me?
Corps Security (8) Catchphrase – Sweet fucking seven, here we go again!
Street Informant (12) Catchphrase – You’re not serious?

Step 8. Roll for augmentations. My brawler starts with three. I get the following
Axillary Heart.
Kyoto Roidtech Strength Graft.
Full limb cyber arm.

Step 9. Gain bonus languages. With an Int. of just 6, our brawler knows no additional languages.

Step 10. Choose skills. Our brawler has 8 skills, Athletics plus 7 others. I choose
Athletics, Acrobatics, Driving, First Aid, Mechanic, Persuasion, Stealth, Survival.

Step 11. Choose class abilities. My brawler stats with three melee talents. I choose the following for him.
Charger, Unarmed Expert, Brutal.

Step 12. Add gear pack. As a brawler he gets the following,
Kevlar Jacket, Sword or baseball bat, Saab Enforcer heavy pistol (laser sight, 2 x mags reg ammo),
Cell ( Hon Hai Echo Sys 10), Fake ID, Brass knuckles, and ₵50.

Step 13. Add turning point, living standard and address. I get
Turning Point – Justice. A lowlife crew killed your parents. You have hunted two down. You wont stop till you find them all.
Living Standard – Moderate.
Address – Beacon.

Step 14. Create a background. My elf brawler ganger working for the Grekov Vory faction, (hence the full cyber arm, a must have to work for Grekov Vory), in the Beacon district. He uses this job to gather information about the gang that murdered his patents.

Step 15. My brawler goes by the handle ‘Ecuador’.

Finally, as an elf, Ecuador has innate night optics (Lowlife 2090 p. 150) and a natural magnetism that grants advantage on Charisma related checks.

And there we have out first Lowlife 2090 character. Ecuador the elven brawler. Working as a ganger in the criminal underworld in the Beacon district, trying to track down the gang that killed his folks.

  1. About the stall, I have begun the process of reading/using The Game Master’s Apprentice (second edition) system neutral Cyberpunk deck, which, although it doesn’t seem to be mentioned on DriveThruRPG in its description, includes a Cyberpunk Adventure Guide, described in the Kickstarter updates as “a short PDF of suggestions and special rules for using the GMA to tell Cyberpunk stories.” This guide talks about creating a framework before play (although I think that it would benefit you in your Lowlife 2090 playthrough at this point) because a framework supposedly “ensures you have enough information to always answer the quintessential question, ‘What happens next?’ ” (p. 5).

    1. Thanks John, I was not aware of the GMA Cyberpunk deck. It sounds really useful and if the deck helps keep the game flowing it would be worth picking up for sure. I pop over to Drivethru and check the deck out,
      Cheers
      Stu,
