Day 8 of the January 2024 create a character a day challenge and I have gone back to Tales of Argosa RPG by Pickpocket Press. I am using the playtest version available as a free download if you already own Low Fantasy Gaming deluxe. Today I will create a fighter.

Most of the character generation in ToA is, or can be, random which makes it perfect for solo play and by following the 17 steps in the rule book you can generate a character really quickly.

Here is how my Fighter character was created.

Step 1. Roll 1d12 for race. I roll 11 so this character is an Elf

Step 2. Roll d66 for background. I roll 52 so this character was a Street Actrobat and gains +1 Dex, the skill ‘Acrobatics’ and a 10′ Pole.

Step 3. Roll 3d6 for attributes. I roll 7, 8, 10, 11, 11, 12, 16. As one roll must be 13 or above and one 15 or above, the 7 is changed to 13. I assign the rolls to the attributes as follows –
Str: 16 Dex: 14 (includes +1 gained from step 2) Con: 12 Int: 8 Perc: 11 Will: 10 Cha: 11

Step 4. Choose class. As mentioned above this character will be a ‘Fighter’.

Step 5. My Fighters Luck is 11, Re-rolls 1 and DDM 1.

Step 6. Initiative is Dex + Int/2 rounded down so 14+8/2 = 11.

Step 7. Hit points = Con score plus level x 3, so 15.

Step 8. Death Save is 10 + Will mod so 10.

Step 9. Skills – Athletics, Leadership, Stealth, Watercraft, Wilderness Lore and Acrobatics (see step 2 above).

Step 10. Class Abilities. Adaptable, Deadly Strikes.

Step 11. Battle Gear slots = 8, Pack Gear slots = 8
Pack Gear. Torch, bedroll, 5 days rations.
Tinderbox and 10 silvers in a pouch.
Class Starting Gear. longsword (1d8), Chain Shirt (+3 AC), Shield (+1 A)

Step 12. AC = 10 + 3(chain shirt) +1(shield) +1 Dex mod so 15

Step 13. Attack bonus = +3 (melee), +2 (ranged)

Step 14. Languages – common tongue.

Step 15. Age 1d20+16 = 25 years

Step 16. Name: Leaf Fearmer (male), Personality: Dim-witted. (rolled randomly from the personality tables).

Step 17. Party Bond. joint debt to someone. Drinking buddies.
