Day 4 of the January 2024 create a character a day challenge and I am continuing with the Tales of Argosa theme. So far we have created a Half Skorn Artificer and a Human Barbarian. This time its a first level Bard.

Most of the character generation in ToA is, or can be, random which makes it perfect for solo play and by following the 17 steps in the rule book you can generate a character really quickly.

Here is how my Bard character was created.

Step 1. Roll 1d12 for race. I roll 5 so this character is a Human.

Step 2. Roll d66 for background. I roll 62 so this character was a Swineherd and gains +1 Perc, the skill ‘animal lore’ and a Burley Pig (as dog) for a companion.

Step 3. Roll 3d6 for attributes. I roll 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 14. One attribute must be 15 or higher so I am going to swap the 8 for a 15 and make a bard (see step 4). I assign the rolls to the attributes as follows –
Str: 10 Dex: 13 Con: 12 Int: 11 Perc: 15(includes +1 gained from step 2) Will: 14 Cha: 15

Step 4. Choose class. As mentioned above this character will be a ‘Bard’.

Step 5. My bards Luck is 11, Re-rolls 2 and DDM 1.

Step 6. Initiative is Dex + Int/2 rounded down so 13+11/2 = 12.

Step 7. Hit points = Con score plus level x 2, so 14.

Step 8. Death Save is 10 + Will mod so 11.

Step 9. Skills – Apothecary, Persuasion, Deception, General Lore, Divine Lore, Traps and Locks and Animal Lore (see step 2 above).

Step 10. Class Abilities. Inspire Greatness, Silver Tongued.

Step 11. Battle Gear slots = 5, Pack Gear slots = 5
Pack Gear. Torch, bedroll, 5 days rations.
Tinderbox and 10 silvers in a pouch.
Class Starting Gear. Spear (1d6+1), Chain Shirt (+3 AC), Lute

Step 12. AC = 10 + 3(chain shirt) +1 Dex mod so 14

Step 13. Attack bonus = +0 (melee), +2 (ranged)

Step 14. Languages – common tongue.

Step 15. Age 1d20+16 = 27 years

Step 16. Name: Maarika (female), Personality: Prankster. (both rolled randomly from the hireling tables).

Step 17. Party Bond. Temple Attendee, Related.
